The Basenji is still used as an African hunting dog. This is a lightly built unspoilt animal with a distinctive wrinkled forehead, small ears, crested neck and tightly curled tail. The temperament is somewhat independent, yet full of fun. Another unique feature of the breed is it's barklessness, this does not mean he is silent however, as he makes a strange yodelling cry. The coat is short and sleek.
Colour is red, black, black and tan, or brindle with specific white markings.
